Going Green

Beautiful timber furniture is attractive, it moves us and can elevate our spirits. Using wood is
environmentally the right choice. By using sustainably grown and harvested timber we can feel good that we are looking after this incredible resource for future generations.

Celebrating World Forest Day 2012, Dr David Pollard, Chief Executive Officer of Australian Forest Products Association (AFPA) said: “Trees are the ultimate renewable resource and a fantastic carbon sink that literally sucks the CO2 from our atmosphere and stores carbon in it’s fibres. No other building material does that and the carbon is stored for generations in the furniture and building products that surround us.

There is nothing more renewable than growing a tree, harvesting the timber and growing another in it’s place.” Media Release 21 March 2012, World Forest Day – Celebrating natures renewable energy resource.

Growing trees absorb and store Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere so efficiently that approximately half of the dry weight of timber is carbon. By building furniture from timber the carbon remains locked away in the timber and is only released back into the atmosphere again if the furniture decays or is burnt.

Wood is truly a renewable resource, thanks to independent certification bodies such as Australian Forest Standard (AFS) or the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Australia is a world leader in sustainable forest practices.
